Instructions for Installing in a Lab

Because we don't know exactly how you have set up your Windows machines, network, virus protection, etc., we have described the basic requirements for the educational version of VisualAnalysis.  You will need to understand how your school is setting up the student login accounts, whether you are restoring the system registry from an image upon reboot, and/or have access to the "image" used to create the student hard drives.

A. INSTALLATION and ACTIVATION

  1. Download & Run the latest release build of "install-va55-edu.exe". (You should have received a download link directly from IES in an email.  If you have misplaced this, email info@iesweb.com to have a copy mailed to our contact-person at your schoo.)
  2. Enter the school license key information under Help | Software LicenseThis the "Name, Company, Key" information also emailed to you.  You may find it easier to manually enter it on one machine and then export the registry keys (see step 4) to a .REG file and merge that information onto all the other machines.  Please remember that the school license key information is not to be distributed to students or others outside the university.
  3. Activate each machine 1-time, on any account.  The codes are stored under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, hidden and encrypted.  You should NOT have to reactivate under each account.

IES-Activation-Process.pdf    If you are setting up multiple machines, you might find it easier to manually obtain all the "Machine ID" values and email them to info@iesweb.com (with your name, school name, etc.) and then we will email back the associated "activation codes".  The software will run OK for a small number of times without requiring activation, after that it will lock-out.
  4. Verify that the following information is stored in the system registry:
          [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IES\License]
            [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IES\License\Company]
            @="Your School Name"
            [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IES\License\KeyEx]
            @="<Your License Key Here>"
  5. Verify that upon reboot, and login under a student account that the system registry remains intact.  You need to make sure this information is included in your "master image" of the hard drive if you are restoring the machine after each reboot.

B. RUNNING VISUALANALYSIS

The verification that the registry information is in place is:

  1. The software executes, VisualAnalysis opens.
  2. Help | Software License shows you are licensed and "Activated OK".

Because students will run VisualAnalysis with reduced privileges, you may need to make some changes to the student login profiles or permission settings.

C. For More Technical Details

If you still have installation or licensing issues, please run IES diagnostics from one of the machines that is not working.  See FAQ Answers for instructions on how to do this and send it to IES.  Let us know exactly how your lab machines are set up, what is working and what is not working, and we will try to help!
