Software License Policy

Definitions and General Information

Integrated Engineering Software, Inc., [IES, we, us, our] licenses software to companies, organizations, or engineers in private practice [purchaser, license owner, customer] for use by licensees [engineers, people, you]. This document defines and clarifies our software licensing rules and requirements in plain English. This policy handles the typical scenarios of engineers in private practice, small consulting firms, as well as large corporations and government agencies.

An individual software license gives one named person the legal right to use our software, a network concurrent license gives any one person at a time the legal right to user our software.  Also included in the right to use the software is access to technical support services and product updates. The purpose of our licensing is to provide some reasonable protection for our intellectual property. Licensing also provides customers with a clear solution for complying with software laws.

Honor & Trust

IES license policies are mostly on your honor, as we do not use hardware locks. Our software keys simply brand the software with the licensee and purchaser information. We trust customers to decide how many licenses they need and to purchase the correct number. Your respect and cooperation is essential to our survival as a business and will directly impact product costs, quality of support, and future enhancements. You should never distribute IES software or keys to others, or store them in a location where they may be compromised.

Software Maintenance & Support

Free! There are no maintenance or support fees with our standard licenses. This means that a license is a one-time purchase with no future costs.  There are regular updates (bug fixes) to products available for free download and we usually announce these updates in our newsletters, in direct emails to customers, and also through built-in mechanisms in the software.

Note: IES offers a "maintenance plan", but this has nothing to do with updates or support, it is really a "budget plan" or a "subscription plan" where you can pre-pay for software upgrades at a discount, with fixed annual payments.  Bug fixes are always free!

Software Upgrades

IES makes upgrades (major new versions) available for purchase periodically, historically this has been at 12-24 month intervals.  Upgrades are normally free if you have purchased within 3 months of their release, otherwise they are priced at about 1/3 of the new prices, depending on the nature of the changes.

License upgrades are not required to maintain support for your current products. However, newer products tend to be much better supported and to run better on newer operating systems! IES can focus on improving the software (and less time on supporting old products) if most customers upgrade to the latest versions.

Software Installation

It should be noted that a software license is strictly a business agreement. It does not necessarily define or dictate how or where the software is installed. For example, it may be perfectly legitimate to install IES software on a network even if you have purchased individual licenses. At the same time, our license
agreements do place restrictions on installations, so it is important to understand those restrictions to avoid breaking the agreement.

Return Policy

Our goal has always been to have satisfied customers, in essence policy: "if you are not happy, we are not happy."

To that end, within 30 days from the date of purchase if you are not completely satisfied with the software you may return it for a complete refund of the purchase price, less shipping and handling charges.

Privacy Policy

We Respect Your Privacy

IES works hard to maintain your privacy. When we ask for your name, address, phone number, email address, etc., we do so strictly to communicate to you the you have requested. If at any time you would like to be removed from our records, please let us know and we will happily comply.

No Mailing List Rental

IES maintains a mailing list of prospective customers in the USA and Canada. We will keep you informed with just a few mailings a this information. We generally do not mail literature or other materials internationally unless you become an IES customer. Product information and software are available for international download.

No Telephone Marketing

Although we ask for a phone number, we do not use telephone marketing. We do not sell or rent this information.

No Spam Email

Email addresses are kept strictly confidential. IES does not sell or rent email addresses for customers or prospective customers to anyone. If you give us your email, we will only use it to inform you of IES announcements, new products, updates and promotions. We will promptly remove you from our mailing list upon request.
